Max2024-05-21A fascinating book about Scotland You can feel the author's passion for Scotland in every story worth reading. It is not a classic travel guide. Here the author goes his own, very successful way with 29 stories. He entertains with exciting, funny, but also tragic stories, and although I haven't been to Scotland myself, I felt like I was there myself while reading. I can recommend the book to anyone who is interested in Scotland and would like to get to know the country better. The book is attractively illustrated with a fold-out overview map and great photos.Doris Meides2023-08-13Great book This is not a travel guide in the classic (sometimes boring) sense. You learn many interesting things about the country and its people; the wee stories are entertaining, exciting and also amusing! And they are written in a wonderful language. You can feel the author's love for the country. It makes you want to visit the many beautiful places yourself! And it also makes a great gift.Carolin & Julian2023-07-20New longing destination Scotland We were lucky enough to meet the incredibly likeable author in person at Schliersee and, thanks to his stories, we immediately ordered the book and chose Scotland as our new dream destination.Andreas Filler2023-07-20Very informative Reads very nicely. Because the author's passion is convincing. Why this book? Travel guides are a dime a dozen, especially for Scotland. So the question arises: why this one? Quite simply because it's a lot of fun to read and I first read the book myself and then gave it away several times for Christmas. The feedback was always the same, ending with the question: "And when are we flying?" The author takes us on a journey through his (favorite) country - which the author conveys very vividly - by telling us bizarre, exciting, sad and beautiful stories about the individual stops on (his) round trip. These are not just any standard tips that you would normally find in a travel guide, but lovingly compiled anecdotes, stories and reports. I would say it's a lover's tribute, and anyone who wasn't yet convinced that they should travel to Scotland will be curious about the country, where not only whiskey and bagpipes play a major role, but also things like a traffic stop and a bus stop...Christian Elvers2022-12-16Exciting insights into the Scottish soul This exciting book leads to two insights. Firstly: Scotland has far more to offer than Loch Ness, bagpipes or men in skirts. Secondly, the author must love this country - and he succeeds in transferring this passion to the reader. The stories meticulously dug up by Rene Niklaus are full of curiosities that provide a deep insight into the Scottish soul. Familiar sights such as Loch Ness and the Yellow Submarine are re-experienced in the best storytelling, while the chapter on witches, which preoccupied the Scots well into the recent past, is a real thrill. There are also anecdotes about whisky, which is just as much a part of Scotland as it is, according to the author, a part of writing a good book. The content is matched by the high-quality impression of the book, which is illustrated at the end and includes an original map. A recommendable Christmas present for Scotland fans and those who want to become one.
